Find of the Week

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend!

Once a week I will be posting my "Find of the Week" or FOTW. FOTW will included a recent purchase that I just could not resist - whether it is from a local consignment shop or a trip to the mall.

This week's find is:
BCBG Jeweled Sandal
$29.99 at TJ Maxx

I could not resist purchasing this sandal - I am all about bling and bright colors and it immediately caught my eye. It is the perfect sandal for the upcoming months and with various colors it is bound to go great with everything from shorts, skirts, dresses, maxi dresses, skinny jeans, capris - I wasn't kidding.. everything!

Send me your FOTW to be featured on Style Savvy! Please send photos to StyleSavvyx89@gmail.com :)

Happy Tuesday!

Spring Essentials

I have definitely been a little MIA - but I am back! Now that we are well into spring and the sun is shining, I am ready to begin blogging again. I don't know about you but the weather this weekend was beyond perfection and made me excited to spruce up my spring/summer wardrobe. Today's post will focus on essentials that should be in your closet for spring 2014.

Bright Colors
It's Spring! We just survived a cold, dark and snowy winter - put the dark colors away! You will notice most of my spring picks are all bright and fun - Don't be afraid to stand out.

Patterned Shorts
Nothing says bright colors like Lilly Pulitzer. Not only do I recommend everything in their store but I am obsessed with the Callahan Short. They are a bit high-waisted (not mom-jeans high-waisted) yet still are long enough to look like a lady. At first, I was hesitant to purchase them because they are $64. But after price comparing to other name brand stores and the overall quality of the fabric, it is definitely worth the price - plus they come in a variety of different patterns! Below is my most recent purchase:

Pattern: Sea Soiree

This pick from J.Crew Factory may be my next purchase. Priced at $38, these shorts sit right above the hip and best part .. they stretch. They are a bit shorter compared to the Callahan but with a nice wedge, your legs will go on for days.

Cotton Dress
Though I bought this dress (see below) last spring, I still believe everyone must have a casual yet classy dress to wear with flats, sandals, open toe wedge & of course, cowgirl boots - if appropriate :) This particular style can be worn to grab lunch with a friend, running errands, attending a picnic, or even date night. The choice of shoe is key in making it work for the occasion.

The dress I am wearing is Lilly Pulitzer but similar dresses can be found anywhere! Here are a few that I came across at great, affordable prices:

J.Crew Factory - $52 (On Sale) This cotton dress falls right above the knee. Very casual yet can easily be worn to a variety of occasions!

H&M - $29.95 This piece  is more on the casual side. I would not recommend wearing wedges - I would stick with a flat or sandal.

American Eagle - $34.95 There are so many things I love about this dress - the material, colors and how it lays. This is a great dress to pair with a small cardigan or jean jacket.

Statement Necklaces
Statement necklaces are probably the best thing ... ever. They can take a simple outfit and make it do a complete 180. The necklace shown below is from Forever21. At $11.80, this necklace will definitely serve it's purpose this Spring and Summer. This necklace also comes in teal.

Forever 21 - $11.80

If you don't mind a little splurge, I highly recommend BaubleBar.com. This particular necklace (shown below) is part of Courtney Kerr's collaboration with the chic jewelry company (FYI: love her!) As you can see, she paired this detailed necklace with a plain v-neck t-shirt. I told you - these necklaces can do wonders for a plain-jane look.

Love is in the Air

Hey y'all! I apologize for the delayed blog posts! I was out of power for a few days followed by a weekend getaway to the mountains - but I'm back!

With Valentine's Day in the air, I wanted to post an outfit that everyone can wear this weekend whether you're grabbing dinner with your man or drinks with your girlfriends! I've recently been into the peplum shirt (even though they've been in style for over a year) - they look great both dressed up & casual!

Top: Forever 21 ; Pants: New York & Company

Shoes: Shoe Dazzle
Necklace: I Am; Earrings: Express

This look is simple yet fun all thanks to the peplum top. And not to mention this particular style attracts statement necklaces (yet another recent obsession of mine!) I chose to pair the bright red top with black skinny jeans to make it more of a romantic and dressy feel. Because of the "flare" on the bottom of the top, a skinny or straight leg pant best compliments the shirt. But feel free to try it out with other styles - everybody's body is different!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Winter Wonderland

Looks like Punxsutawney Phil was right when he said we have 6 more weeks of winter. But don't let the winter blues get in the way of having fun with your wardrobe!

Lately, I've had an obsession with ponchos. Ponchos are a great staple for late Fall & Winter because they are practical and fashionable. I tend to pair my poncho (as seen below) with cotton leggings and riding boots but they also pair well with jeans - patterned or colored. Throw on a pair of heeled booties and you're good to go (and not to mention your legs will look a lot longer!)

Note: I have seen belts used with ponchos. Personally, belting this material can cause fabric to bunch and does not always flatter your figure.  If you can make it work, go for it!

Poncho: Ann Taylor Loft; Leggings: VS PINK; Hat: Old Navy; Shoes: DSW; Long sleeve shirt: Old Navy

Since my poncho is thick & made of wool, leggings seemed most appropriate (& comfortable.) It crossed my mind pairing with dark brown riding boots instead of black but black just seemed appropriate.

As far as accessories, I decided to add a black cloche hat. It helps to bring the entire ensemble together since there is not a statement piece and the color scheme is rather dark. Because of how ponchos fall, it can be difficult to use your every day purse. I recommend using either a handbag or a smaller cross-body purse (underneath poncho.)

If you do not own a poncho, I highly recommend purchasing one. With Spring collections working their way into stores, you can definitely score a great deal!

Please send any questions to StyleSavvyx89@gmail.com - I would love to answer them!

Stay warm!

Introduction

Hi All! Before it all begins, I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and give a background on why I am starting a style blog.

My name is Molly and I am 24 years young. Born & raised in Pennsylvania, I've never lived anywhere else! I grew up outside of Scranton (yes, The Office!), graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Public Relations (We Are!) and now residing outside of Philadelphia with my boyfriend, Brendan & cat, Jack :)

I decided to begin a style blog because for as long as I can remember and still to this day, I never have anything to wear! I  wear an outfit, take pictures with my friends and never have an interest to wear it again (I am 99.9% sure I am not the only one who feels this way.) It wasn't until I created an account with Pinterest and made my first style board where I realized it's ok to mix and match outfits and wear them to a variety of functions including social & professional.

Though it is fun to mix and match your closet, a girl still needs her retail therapy. But when you're 20 something years old and on a budget, killer sales become one of your best friends. I'm gonna be completely honest .. I shop .. a lot and living & working just minutes from one of the largest malls in America can be a love/hate relationship at times. I've learned to stay within my budget and still dress great and that is what I want to share with my followers.

Please feel free to leave any questions or comments you may have or e-mail me at StyleSavvyx89@gmail.com :)

Enjoy!
